absentee ballots have already been cast. that's up from 2008. in florida nearly 4 point. >> petros: 5 million peop-- 4.5 million people have voted. president obama voted early this year. he'll do some swing state interviews and then play in his traditional election day basketball game and then wait in chicago. mr. romney has added two last-minute campaign stops in ohio. paul ryan will vote and join him in boston. joe biden will vote in delaware before joining him in chicago. tracie pots has the details on the final frantic day of campaigning. tracie, good morning to you. >> reporter: hey, good morning. it may be a frantic day of voting too. this is one of the many polling places soon to open in ohio. take a look at the cincinnati inquirer. the headline, it's all up to us. ohio at the center of the political universe. while this state may, in fact, be important, it wasn't the first to vote. for the first time ever and with its lowest turnout in almost 50 years, a tie this morning in tiny dixville, notch. just after midnight they cast 5 votes for president obama, 5 for governor romney.

hampshire, florida, ohio, and colorado, i spoke to white house senior adviser david plouffe. welcome back to "meet the press." >> thank you for having me, david. >> the endellible images this week had to do with hurricane sandy and an impact on this race because of the president's time and the images that we saw, meeting with governor christie in new jersey who as we heard gave him high marks touring the storm zone. and of course the images continue to be very, very difficult. but as we look at christie and the president together, was this the october surprise, these political foes, together in leadership, and christie giving the president such high marks? >> well, i don't think so, david. first of all, that's what leaders should do. we've had so many people affected. people lost loved ones. so many people out of power. really struggling. and so i think what's incumbent on leaders no matter where they come from or what political party, they are working together, and that's what you've seen. and it will take a long time to recover. but that's what the american people expect from their lead

to take a nosedive down into florida and come up the coast. when this storm gets pushed down to the bottom where the jt takes the turn and spins up. gives it energy like a whip being cracked. here's what will happen with that. here's the storm. rides the jet stream to the south. down around florida. gets the spin up there, comes up the coast. then we have a situation, how close to the coast will this be? one computer model, the european model, has it awfully close, this would be a troublesome forecast. the other computer model has it far enough offshore that we wouldn't be affected at all. the two main models have differing ideas how this thing will behave. the european is slower move, more rain, maybe snow involved but at least the winds, the strong winds wouldn't be as widespread. we'll have to see what happens with this. here's the seven-day forecast. 50 tomorrow, 48 on election day. election day still dry. we'll just peck up clouds at the end of the day. the craziest day probably will be wednesday. the highest rein chance, windiest conditions, maybe snow on thursday and the rain will t

, then to ohio, to pennsylvania, and virginia, and then he sleeps tomorrow night in florida. that's just the next 36 hours. the real priority right now for the romney campaign is trying to drive upturnout for their candidate last night. governor romney was greeted by his largest campaign rally. there were about 30,000 people in ohio, including a lineup of top republican leaders. this is what the campaign referred to as the closing argument over the course of yesterday, effectively indicting president obama's record. he said the president promised change but didn't deliver it. he said he is promising change but has the record to achieve it and he referred to his campaign as a movement. >> it's the depth of our shared conviction, our readiness for new possibilities, the sense that our work is soon to begin. it's made me strive more to be worthy of your support. >> reporter: so now governor romney is going to move across the country. he does have a challenge ahead of him here. while most of the races are tight, one of the critical races is the battleground state of florida. as you see now, governor

, down to florida and along the carolina coast. expect it to be just to our east on wednesday. the question is, how close to the coast will it be? it could run out to sea and miss us altogether. that is still a possibility on wednesday. it looks like most of the strongest impact will be around ocean city. no problems with election day. temperatures will be chilly. on the bay, the wind will start out like, and gradually increase. in the afternoon hours, one to 2 foot waves. the storm on the cost will be further away. you get some sunshine on wednesday before some flurries in the afternoon and evening, but only a 20% chance. closer to the coast, closer to the storm, and precipitation chances go up to 60%. there could be what's know as well. gusts to 55 mph, right on the beach, with the storm moving off the coast on wednesday. you will see the storm coming of the killer -- the carolina outer banks tomorrow night, throwing the moisture back into the cold air, where it could mix into snow in the afternoon and evening, before it heads for new england on thursday. on that track, the
